Waitemata DHB’s Mental Health Services encompass many aspects of mental health including mental health in the community, alcohol and drug addiction services, Maori and Pacific mental health, mental health for older adults, and child, youth and family services.
Mental illnesses and addictions are very common. They are also widely misunderstood. People with mental illnesses and addictions are frequently stigmatised by others for a variety of reasons: they may think mental illness is an uncommon condition or that addictions are the user's own fault, but mental illness and addictions can happen to anybody.
Waitemata DHB employs more than 500 staff in its mental health services, and these staff work hard to provide their patients with the support, understanding and care that is needed as they progress towards reaching their recovery goals.
